Regarding COP15, a UN conference to discuss the protection of biodiversity, which was scheduled to be held in China, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity announced that it will be held in December, changing the venue to Canada. ..

COP15 was postponed as the infection of the new coronavirus spread again in China and elsewhere.

The UN Conference COP15, which discusses how to protect biodiversity, is chaired by China and aims to adopt a new goal to replace the Aichi Targets adopted in 2010.

Initially, it was planned to be held in Kunming, southwestern China, but it was postponed due to the influence of the new coronavirus, and after an online meeting was held in October last year, this time from April to May. A face-to-face meeting was scheduled to be held in Kunming.

However, it was postponed again as the infection of the new coronavirus spread in China.

Under these circumstances, the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity announced on the 21st that it will change the venue of COP15 to Montreal, Canada, and will hold it from December 5th to 17th.

China will continue to be the presidency, and Reuters said the secretariat said that the status of the new coronavirus infection was behind the change.

The change appears to be a priority for holding face-to-face meetings in order to adopt the new goals, and the treaty secretariat says, "I would like to thank China for its flexibility."
