Yemen..Houthi militias escalate towards Ma'rib and fears of the collapse of the truce

The terrorist Houthi militia launched an intense bombardment of the Raghwan district, northwest of Ma'rib governorate, as part of its daily escalation and violations of the UN truce, while the Chief of Staff of the Yemeni army called for raising the combat readiness to respond to the Houthi violations.

Field sources confirmed that the Houthi militia launched an intense bombardment of the Raghwan district, northwest of Ma'rib governorate, during the past few hours, using various weapons, including booby-trapped drones and ballistic missiles.

The sources reported that a number of violent explosions resounded in the district as a result of the fall of rockets, rocket-propelled grenades and artillery, which the militias fired on the district intensively, in preparation for launching a large-scale attack with the aim of bringing it down, due to its military importance, as it is located between the governorates of Ma'rib, Al-Jawf and the capital's countryside.

The Yemeni army forces had repelled a massive Houthi attack on their positions in the mountainous axis west of Ma'rib, incurring four deaths, and the families of others who participated in the attack, according to field sources, confirming the killing of the Houthi leader "Abu Malik Al-Radhi", commander of "narcotic" operations, along with three of his companions while they were trying to Infiltration towards army positions in Malboudah, west of Ma'rib.

For his part, the Chief of Staff of the Yemeni Army called on the commander of the joint operations, Lieutenant-General Saghir bin Aziz, to show high vigilance and permanent readiness, to deter any attempts to advance by the militias, which experiences proved that they do not abide by a covenant or a charter.

In addition, the media center of the Yemeni army stated that 111 violations of the UN truce were monitored on the fronts of the governorates of Hodeidah, Taiz, Al-Dhalea, Hajjah, Marib and Al-Jawf, during the past few hours.

Also, 34 new violations of the armistice were monitored by the Joint Forces Media Center in the West Coast during the past 24 hours, including attacks by drones on the joint sites south of Hodeidah and west of Taiz.

Also on the western coast, the military media of the joint forces reported that the security services had seized a cell belonging to the so-called "security and intelligence service" of the Houthi militia, entrusted with the tasks of blocking roads and looting on the western coast, indicating that the operation came after careful intelligence monitoring and follow-up.

The center stated that the official of the cell, Mahdi Ali Ahmed Al-Marqashi, and four of its members were arrested, and the rest of those involved in the cell were tracked.

Al-Houthi’s escalation on various fronts, in various ways, comes with their continued rejection of the proposal of the UN envoy to Yemen regarding opening roads in Taiz and other governorates, which threatens to fail the armistice that was extended for an additional two months in early June.

In this context, the Yemeni Foreign Ministry confirmed that the intransigence of the Houthi militia and its insistence on continuing the siege on the city of Taiz represents a real dilemma in front of launching the political process led by the United Nations, and called on the international community to put pressure on the Houthi militia to abide by the terms of the armistice.

And after about three weeks of extending the humanitarian truce, fears of its collapse are growing due to the continued faltering implementation of the clause on opening roads and crossings, especially in Taiz, as a result of the Houthis’ rejection, in addition to the militias’ field escalation accompanied by the intensification of combat readiness and child recruitment campaigns.

For its part, the United Nations accused the Houthi militia of constantly obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid to the needy in the governorates under its control in northern Yemen.

In a statement, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that humanitarian access in Yemen remains a challenge due to bureaucratic obstacles imposed by Houthi elements, represented by the "restriction of the movement of staff of organizations or goods inside Yemen" imposed by the authorities, and these include Refusal of travel permits or delays and cancellation of missions and travel activities.
