It is a 32-year-old and a 23-year-old man who is now sentenced to prison for gross public destruction and gross violation of the law on flammable and explosive goods.

- It has been a very powerful explosive charge aimed at the police, which is a basic function of society.

There has also been a high risk of personal injury.

This means that the crimes have a high penalty value, says judge Martin Persson, in a press release.

120 were nearby

At 00.20 on the night of 17 October 2017, the entrance to the police station in Helsingborg was blown up.

The explosion was heard in several adjacent districts in Helsingborg and caused major material damage to the police station.

No one was injured despite 120 people being in or near the building.

The prosecutor's evidence is largely based on a witness, a former gang member who now lists his former friends.

The man has told both about how he was involved in some preparations for the explosion but also during the bombing night.

The district court has made the assessment that strong supporting evidence is required as a complement to the testimony in order to be able to convict someone.

In both the 32-year-old's and the 23-year-old's case, there is sufficient evidence of support.

A man is released - was singled out as the one who lit it

The 32-year-old is already in prison for an attempted murder in Helsingborg and for an explosion in Landskrona, the prison sentence is now increased by seven years due to today's sentence.

The 23-year-old was only nineteen at the time of the act and is also sentenced to seven years in prison.

The third man who was previously suspected of being the one who lit the bomb is completely acquitted by Helsingborg District Court because there is not enough evidence to bind him to the act.

The man's lawyer, Markus Bergdahl, is satisfied with the verdict.

- But I do not think he should have been prosecuted at all.

My client had an alibi, a person who testified that they had been together when the crime was committed, he says.
