Mr. Fujii, who will be appointed as the new administrative vice-minister, is 61 years old from Okayama prefecture.
He joined the Ministry of Transport at that time in 1983, and has been a Deputy Director of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for three years after working as a director of the railway bureau and a secretariat.
Mr. Fujii will be required to verify the accident in which a tourist boat sank off the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido and consider safety measures to prevent recurrence, and to respond to a series of natural disasters such as heavy rains and earthquakes. ..
