The world is facing major changes that have not been seen in a century. Where does globalization go?

  At present, globalization is facing major changes unseen in a century. The raging new crown epidemic, the widening gap between the rich and the poor, geopolitical games, supply chain fluctuations and other factors are superimposed, and the international system is facing a reset.

How will globalization develop in this situation?

Will it weaken or rebuild?

  In response to the above problems, the participating experts believed that examining the development trend of globalization should not only extend the time dimension, but also analyze and think from multiple perspectives.

  Zhang Xudong, professor of East Asia Department and Comparative Literature Department of New York University and director of the Center for International Critic Theory at Peking University, believes that if capitalist globalization is understood as the process of modern world history, it has never expanded on a harmonious and smooth "historical surface", but Growing up in a variety of conflicts and social obstacles.

Therefore, "the current situation is not inverse globalization and deglobalization, but in line with the development trend of the history of globalization."

  Li Xiangyang, dean of the Institute of Asia-Pacific and Global Strategy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that if the rules and order of production relations cannot adapt to the flow of cross-border production factors and commodities, it will hinder globalization; otherwise, it will promote globalization.

"Therefore, globalization is cyclical."

  "Globalization has no end" became the consensus of the participants.

Gu Xuewu, a specially invited senior researcher of CCG and director of the Center for Global Studies at the University of Bonn in Germany, pointed out that globalization will not end because its real driving force is the market economy.

He believes that despite many obstacles and repeated blows, globalization will continue as long as the capital-oriented market economy does not end.

  Guo Zhonghua, a professor at the School of Government Management of Nanjing University, believes that although globalization has seen a resurgence in some areas, it has become stronger in other areas, such as digitalization, artificial intelligence and other technological development areas.

In the face of today's globalization situation, what role should China play?

  Chen Wenling, an expert of the CCG Academic Committee and chief economist of China International Economic Exchange Center, believes that "the world is inclined and unbalanced, and today's world is chaotic, and we are in the midst of rapid changes and evolution."

Under such circumstances, globalization is at a historical crossroads, and human beings are also faced with multiple "examination questions" such as communication, division, economic crisis, and credit deficit.

  In the face of today's globalization situation, what role should China, standing at the crossroads of history with globalization, play?

  Wu Zhicheng, deputy dean of the International Strategy Institute of the Central Party School (National School of Governance), believes that at the crossroads of globalization, China, as a responsible power, "needs to uphold justice and constantly push forward globalization."

He makes the following recommendations:

  ——Maintaining sobriety and strategic determination, recognizing globalization, and coordinating the two overall situations;
