US President Joe Biden called Ukraine's entry into the European Union very likely.

He stated this in an interview with American journalists.

“I think it is likely, very likely to happen,” he answered the related question.

Biden also said that he is unlikely to visit Ukraine as part of his upcoming trips to Europe and the Middle East.

The first deputy chairman of the Federation Council committee on international affairs, Vladimir Dzhabarov, in a conversation with RT, urged not to take Biden's statements seriously.

“In any case, the members of the European Union will make the decision.

It is one thing now to appoint Ukraine as a candidate for membership, which can last twenty or thirty years, but it is quite another to actually accept it.

But I think that here, with all the authority of the Americans in the eyes of their European partners, it will be very difficult for them to put pressure on them.

Because the acceptance of such a dismantled Ukraine in terms of economy and agriculture into its ranks is a huge burden and only problems,” the senator explained.

He recalled that corruption is rampant in Ukraine, "factories are standing still and Nazis are running around the cities."

“According to the rules of the EU, a consensus is needed.

That is, if at least one is against, then Ukraine will not be accepted anywhere.

Therefore, I think this is more said to add fuel to the fire.

Let him enter.

The sooner Ukraine joins the European Union, the sooner it will fall apart.

They understand this very well, so they will not rush,” Dzhabarov said.

A similar opinion in a conversation with RT was expressed by the director of the Franklin Roosevelt Foundation for the Study of the United States at Moscow State University, Yuri Rogulev.

“Firstly, he does not make this decision, so his confidence means little in this sense.

Secondly, the fact that Ukraine has been approved of its application for membership in the European Union and has been given a priority does not mean anything.

Turkey has been in this position for more than twenty years and has never become a member of the European Union.

In fact, these are all empty words and empty promises.

They pursue a different goal - to strengthen the fighting spirit of the leadership of Ukraine.

So that it does not suddenly reverse and stop hostilities, ”the expert said.

Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev compared the promises of the European Commission to admit Ukraine to the EU with the principles of building communism.

“They promised, but with conditions.

Type should become better, cleaner.

Less corrupt, more developed... Aunt Ursula even said that Ukrainians are dying for EU membership... And then - as with building communism.

The date has not been named, ”he wrote in his Telegram.

Instead, according to Medvedev, many different conditions were cited.

The deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council said that the situation could repeat the history of the USSR - communism might have come if the Union itself had been preserved.

“Unfortunately, the Union is dead.

What if (I knock on wood) the EU will disappear by this time?

It’s scary to think… after all, what sacrifices have been made on the altar of joining the EU and what a deception of the expectations of the unfortunate Ukrainians,” he said.

On the eve of the European Commission said that Ukraine may be revoked the status of a candidate for joining the European Union in case of non-compliance with a number of conditions.

They recalled that the accession process is based on established criteria.

According to the statement of the EC, the opportunity to become a member of the European Union will be given to Ukraine if Kyiv: adopts legislation on the procedure for selecting judges of the Constitutional Court;

strengthen the fight against corruption;

ensure the fight against money laundering;

adopt a comprehensive strategic plan for the reform of the entire law enforcement sector as part of Ukraine's security system;

introduce an anti-oligarchic law to limit the excessive influence of the oligarchs on economic, political and public life;

adopt a law on independent media;

complete the reform of the legal framework for national minorities.

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov noted that the decision to give Ukraine the status of an EU candidate requires increased attention.

“This still remains a different plane, although it requires our increased attention, because we all know about the intensification of discussions in Europe regarding the strengthening of the defense component of the European Union, the military, defense and security component, so there are various transformations that we , of course, we are observing in the most careful way,” Peskov said.
