This summer, swimming will be prohibited in the Marne in Meaux (Seine-et-Marne).

For the European Environment Agency (EEA), the quality of the water has deteriorated and is now insufficient.

Informed by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of this European decision, the mayor of Meaux Jean-François Copé issued a municipal ban on Thursday June 16, reports

Le Parisien

.

According to him, the storms of last year would be the cause of this deterioration.

This news comes at a very bad time because, every summer, the municipality organizes the Meaux Plage operation.

Residents can swim in the Marne under supervision and enjoy many activities.

The town hall had to review the organization and regrets that the AEE did not impose daily analyzes which would have potentially allowed a partial opening.

Pool prices lowered

To improve the inhabitants of the agglomeration to bathe this summer, the two swimming pools of Meaux will be open until 9:30 p.m. and have lowered their prices.

Admission will only be €2 during the season and will be free for children under 4 and over 65.

The two Meaux Plage sites will open on Saturday July 2 pending a potential re-authorization in 2023. Water games and misters are already planned.
