Low electricity prices on weekends are not surprising, as consumption drops sharply, especially in summer.

Then the "electricity contagion" from the continent and the higher prices there play less of a role.

Lowest in Europe

On Saturday, electricity cost 10 öre per kWh in all of Sweden's four electricity areas as an average over the day, clearly the lowest in Europe, with the exception of northern Norway.

Decent windy weather kept the wind gusts going and helped push up the price.

Across the strait, Danish electricity also cost two kronor per kWh, even in southern Norway the price remained high, around 1.50 kronor.

Even on Sunday, the Swedish electricity price remained at a low of 16–19 öre.

Raging gas prices

But before Monday, the picture is different.

The contrast is great.

The price of electricity is rising to SEK 2.37 in southern Götaland (electricity area 4) and almost as much in northern Götaland and Svealand (electricity area 3), the highest daily quotations in at least one month, according to Nordpool.

In the north, the increase is much smaller, to 39 öre / kWh.

Weak forecasts are one explanation, the again recent days of rising gas prices, which are pushing up costs in Germany in particular, are another.
