After the debacle of the presidential election and the 4.78% of Valérie Pécresse, the result of the legislative elections is less severe than expected for Les Républicains.

Allied to the UDI, they will have 64 deputies in the new National Assembly.

This is much less than in previous legislative elections.

In 2017, in the midst of the Macronist wave, Les Républicains (LR) had resisted by sending 112 elected officials to the National Assembly, to which were added 18 UDIs and 6 various right-wingers.

The Republicans find themselves divided today: should they find common ground with Emmanuel Macron to weigh in the National Assembly or register as an opposition party against the President of the Republic?

For Christian Jacob, the answer is very clear.

“His five-year term will have been a total failure”

"It is a stinging failure for Emmanuel Macron, who pays for the cynicism that was his, to have permanently instrumentalized the extremes", declared the leader of the Republicans after the announcement of the results Sunday evening.

"As far as we are concerned, we campaigned in opposition, we are in opposition and we will remain in opposition. Things are very clear. It will be, as we have always done, a constructive opposition and a real opposition to Emmanuel Macron who will have destroyed everything. His five-year term will have been a total failure and that is what brings this result today".

Former LR Minister Jean-François Copé pleaded for a "government pact" with Emmanuel Macron.

A “personal” position, retorted Christian Jacob.
