The possibility of a U.S. recession in 2022 has risen rapidly as inflationary pressures remain strong and the Federal Reserve has taken increasingly forceful actions to curb it.
Economists, on average, expected a 28 percent chance of a recession at some point in the next 12 months, according to the Wall Street Journal's last survey in April, compared with an 18 percent chance of a recession in January.
In December 2007, the month the recession began between 2007 and 2009, economists gave a recession probability of 38%.
In February 2020, when the last recession started, they gave a probability of 26%.
