• In Rennes, the union of the left won three of the four constituencies thanks to its candidates from Nupes.

  • The first quaestor of the National Assembly was notably beaten by the mayor of Rheu Mickaël Bouloux.

  • Only LREM MP Laurence Maillart-Méhaignerie offered a seat to the presidential majority.

Rennes is a city anchored on the left.

In the hands of the socialists since 1977, the Breton capital had given a triumph to Emmanuel Macron and his deputies in 2017. Five years later, its voters returned to their "first love" by electing three deputies from the union of the left (Nupes) in four constituencies in the second round of legislative elections.

Only the outgoing deputy Laurence Maillart-Méhaignerie was able to retain a seat for the presidential majority with 51.8% of the vote.

In this 2nd constituency of Ille-et-Vilaine, she won by 2,000 votes Tristan Lahais, member of Generations (s) invested by Nupes.

"It's a disappointment in view of the efforts made on the ground for six weeks," said the municipal councilor of Rennes, congratulating his opponent in passing.

Results in Ille-et-Vilaine

In the 8th constituency, Nupes candidate Mickaël Bouloux killed all suspense on the evening of the first round by distancing candidate Florian Bachelier by more than 13 points.

This Sunday for the second round, the quaestor of the National Assembly was logically beaten by the socialist mayor of Rheu, who won with 58% of the votes and will soon enter the Hemicycle.

On leaving his HQ, Florian Bachelier thanked his teams, hailing "1,800 days of action", believing "to have put the organization of the National Assembly back on track".

The former substitute reelected in a strange duel

In the 3rd constituency (Rennes west), the “left” duel was very close.

It is finally Claudia Rouaux who will continue her work as an MP.

The deputy of the socialist François André, elected with the support of LREM in 2017, had begun to sit in the Assembly in 2020, on the death of the deputy.

This Sunday, the candidate Nupes defeated the candidate of the Radical Left Party Christophe Martins, who had received the support of Ensemble!

According to figures from the Ministry of the Interior, the mayor of Iffendic is outdistanced by around 1,500 votes and caps at 48.5%, against 52.5% for the outgoing deputy.

The last expected result concerned the 1st constituency of Ille-et-Vilaine, whose seat had been left vacant since the resignation of walker Mustapha Laabid, who had resigned after his court conviction.

In a duel that promised to be tight, it was finally the Nupes candidate Frédéric Mathieu who won (52.6%), quite easily distancing the LREM candidate Hind Saoud (47.4%).

Novice in politics, the new deputy of La France insoumise had already changed his Twitter profile in the evening, announcing his new functions.
