Temperatures are panicking: this Saturday is the hottest day of the week in France, with peaks at 42 degrees in Gironde, or even in Occitania.

What have the French planned to cool off this weekend?

Europe 1 went to a Paris market to find out about the projects of some Parisians.

42 degrees in Bordeaux, as in Occitania.

This Saturday is the hottest day as an episode of heat and heat wave in the south-west of France has affected the country for a week.

Eating fruit, drinking, staying in the shade... Everyone has their own trick for spending the day in the cool.

Europe 1 went to a market in Paris, to meet Parisians, where the mercury should reach 38 degrees in the afternoon.

The very first tip for customers is to fill their basket with the freshest products.

"Watermelon, fruits, vegetables that can be eaten cold", says a first resident at the microphone of Europe 1. "Strawberries, blueberries, cucumbers, tomatoes because it refreshes, hydrates and it does not give craving (to eat) meat", says another Parisian.

Blackout curtains, drinking water...

Faced with this heat, most of the people encountered on Saturday morning in this market in the capital have planned to stay at home once their purchases have been completed.

They have several techniques to not suffocate inside.

“We are going to stay at home today, we put blackout curtains and we aired out early (Saturday) morning,” said a third client.

For another, it will be "fan, from time to time, feet in a very cold bowl with ice cubes. Close everything as much as possible, and water, water, water!"

"We will try to do everything more slowly, to try not to run out," says another regular on the market.

These French who are going to "get fresh"

A few brave people have nevertheless planned to venture outside in the afternoon, in well-chosen places.

"We are going to go to the suburbs, get a little cool", evokes this Parisian at the microphone of Europe 1. A passer-by also tells what she plans to do: "I think I'm going to go out in an air-conditioned place , to the museum, to the cinema, or something like that".

"Me, I rather left to find a small green space, where it's always cooler. It's always more pleasant than when you're surrounded by concrete, bitumen... It gets hot!", Launches this other passer-by encountered by Europe 1. If the temperature drops a little in the evening, many plan to go and sit on the terrace with a cold drink to enjoy the weather a little bit.
