Russian President Vladimir Putin's speech at the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg has been postponed after a cyber attack.

There was a so-called “denial of service” attack on the accreditation system, as the Kremlin announced on Friday.

Putin's speech has therefore been postponed by an hour.

In this type of hacker attack, a server is bombarded with so many requests that the system can no longer handle the tasks.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a phone call with reporters that the cyberattack began on Thursday, crippling the forum's accreditation and entry system, known as the "Russian Davos."

This has led to a number of access problems.

Peskow said specialists were working to fix the problem.
