Cocaine trafficking between Colombia and Brazil

Celso Caldas de Lima was arrested five years ago in Colombia during an operation by the security forces against drug trafficking.

He was then accused of establishing links between the Clan del Golfo, the most powerful Colombian cartel, and La Familia do norte, one of the largest criminal organizations in the Amazon.

He was wanted by Interpol for drug trafficking, homicide, racketeering.

The police did not say why he was at large.

Colombia and Brazil have a common border of 1,600 km through which circulates the cocaine manufactured by the Colombian cartels.

Colombia is the largest producer and exporter of this drug in the world.
