Writer Max Boot warned the West not to let Ukraine lose its war against Russia.

In his column in the Washington Post, he said that the battle of Donbass, with its repercussions on the future of Ukraine and the post-war world as a whole, constitutes a dangerous turning point.

He pointed out that despite the valiant resistance of the Ukrainians, they suffer heavy losses and are slowly losing ground due to the lack of ammunition used for the old Soviet artillery, and the lack of other Western artillery weapons needed to make up for the shortage.

He commented that the West could not bear to see Donbass lost due to the lack of artillery.

The writer argues that if Russian President Vladimir Putin seized this region, having already secured a land corridor from Crimea to the Russian border, he would control nearly a quarter of Ukraine, including its industrial heart and most of its Black Sea coast.

He added that even in the event of a limited Russian victory, this would send a dangerous signal to the world that the West is weak and that aggression is bearing fruit.

The writer urged that more aid should be sent to Ukraine now to avoid losing the Donbass and to enable the counterattack to regain the territory occupied by the Russians.

The writer said that the most important thing Ukraine needs are hundreds of howitzers, multiple launch missile systems, hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, and everything that enables the Ukrainians to target the artillery of Russian supply lines without risking their new weapons near the front lines.

He concluded his article by emphasizing not to worry about the West's depletion of stocks, because it can always produce more later;

And not to worry about provoking Putin because nothing could be more provocative than defeating Ukraine.

The West also has a strategic and moral duty to intensify the effort to help Ukraine win its struggle for freedom, because it is also his battle.
