The two enemy brothers of the outgoing majority, Edouard Philippe and François Bayrou, met on Wednesday for the first time in the legislative campaign in Yonne, in order to join forces in support of their candidates threatened by the RN.

"Today, we are meeting because I believe that we share this desire to give the country a stable and solid majority," said former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe in front of nearly 300 people gathered at the Hôtel-Dieu. Tonnerre, a town of more than 5,000 inhabitants which has suffered from deindustrialisation.

“If we are both here, it is to show that we have the same sense of responsibility (and) that together we can serve our country”, affirmed, for his part, the boss of the Modem, in shirtsleeves in the late afternoon heat.

The day after Marine Le Pen's visit to Yonne, the boss of Horizons, in a dark suit and tie, and that of the Modem, alerted in turn to the risks of a loss of the absolute majority for Emmanuel Macron sunday.

With Edouard Philippe, "we are not friends, but partners", specified Bayrou while leaving the room, recalling that he "did not always agree with him and he not always with me".

"But the important thing is the gravity of the moment we are living," he added.

"We weren't angry"

"We were not angry: we are determined partners of the parliamentary and presidential majority," Edouard Philippe told the press as he left the meeting.

In front of the former coach of AJ Auxerre Guy Roux, to whom they both paid tribute, they above all gave strong support to the two majority candidates in the running on Sunday in Yonne.

In the 2nd rural constituency, the outgoing André Villiers, ex-UDI who joined Horizons, was preceded in the first round by a short head (just over 500 votes) by the RN candidate Audrey Lopez (30.72% - 29.22%).

In the 3rd, the outgoing MoDem Michèle Crouzet, who called on Tonnerre "to block in the Yonne against the far right", is on a very unfavorable tie with nearly 15 points behind RN Julien Odoul who transferred in the lead with more than 35% of the votes.

Before the arrival of Bayrou, Edouard Philippe was also lectured by Senator UDI Dominique Vérien who notably deplored that the outgoing majority had "put a candidate in the paws" of the outgoing LR Guillaume Larrivé, eliminated in the first round in the 1st constituency of Yonne, for the benefit of candidates from the RN and Nupes.

"I regret that he is not on this stage", admitted the former Prime Minister who wished him to "get up".
