French President Emmanuel Macron has called for Ukraine to talk to Russia to end the war.

"The president and officials of Ukraine will have to negotiate with Russia at some point to end the war," Macron said on a visit to Romania on the 15th, according to Reuters news agency.

Macron also called for in-depth dialogue with Ukraine, which is committed to war until the country completely regains its territories.

"At the gateway to the European Union, an unprecedented geopolitical situation is being created," he said.

President Macron has previously made remarks that are at odds with other Western leaders who unilaterally sided with an invaded Ukraine, such as saying that Russia must not be humiliated.

Ukraine and some countries in Eastern Europe have strongly criticized Macron.

Amid the prolonged war and Russian military dominance in the Donbas region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to present the goal of the war as complete territorial restoration and is urging the West for further assistance.
