From "A Tale of Two Cities" to "Traveling the World": the construction of the Greater Bay Area realizes the entrepreneurial dream of young people in Macau

Xinhua News Agency, Macau, June 14 (Reporter Li Hanfang) The Pearl River is surging, and the Hao River is plumbing.

Standing on the "window" that the times have given to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, in Hengqin, a hot spot for investment and construction, how can young entrepreneurs in Macau take off?

From "A Tale of Two Cities" to "Traveling the World", young entrepreneurs in Macau have given the answer. They rely on Hengqin to establish a foothold in the Bay Area, spread their branches, and "help the industry and build the future" on the "home ground" of the Greater Bay Area.

Let the "Made in Macau" robots go out

At the "Wisdom + Life Experience Expo" exhibition held at the Macau Fisherman's Wharf Convention and Exhibition Center, a "tentacle" spray disinfection robot became the eye-catching place.

Yao Jincheng, founder of Xingsugou Technology Co., told reporters that they are launching a shared robot platform in Macau.

In 2019, Star Speed suddenly fell to the ground in Macau.

The sudden epidemic just brought opportunities for the "contactless" service of robots.

In Macau, Fast Shopping provides mobile temperature measurement, disinfection and delivery services for some medical observation hotels, enterprises and government departments, gradually opening up the market.

On new heights, widen new tracks.

The establishment of the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone has provided financial investment, space guarantee and project support for young entrepreneurs in Macao, allowing Yao Jincheng to see more possibilities.

"We plan to build a production base for Xingsugou robots in Hengqin, and at the same time build robots 'made in macao' (made in Macau) with Macau's brand and Macau's intellectual property," he said.

While entering the mainland, Yao Jincheng expects to promote the image of "Made in Macau" to the "Belt and Road" market through the radiating effect of Macau on ASEAN and Portuguese-speaking countries.

Yao Jincheng, who is also a partner of Inno Angel Fund, also looks forward to connecting the capital and technology circles of friends in the Mainland and Macau in a two-way connection.

To this end, in early 2022, he established Metaverse Think Tank Investment Co., Ltd. in Macau.

In the first ten days of June, the first "Qin-Macao Venture Capital Friends Circle" salon, hosted by the Venture Capital Fund Committee of the Guangdong-Macao Federation of Industry and Commerce and undertaken by Yuanzhi Investment, was held.

Yao Jincheng said that the "Qin-Macao Venture Capital Friendship Circle" will be held regularly in the future to create a platform for entrepreneurs and investors to communicate, and will continue to add extension projects such as the Youth Angel Growth Camp and the Macao Common Home Investment Fund to boost the youth of Shenzhen-Hebei District. Entrepreneurial development empowers the innovation and entrepreneurship development of Qin and Macao.

"We hope that the best science and technology companies in Macau will be able to connect with the capital market by landing on the mainland's science and technology innovation board and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and move towards a broader domestic and international market," he said.

The "champion" company that took off from the entrepreneurial paradise

Macau-Beijing-Silicon Valley-Hengqin, Macau youth He Guotao's career path has drawn an arc on the earth.

In the end, he decided to settle down in Hengqin, which he called "innovation paradise" and "blessed land for entrepreneurship".

In 2009, He Guotao went to the United States for further study after graduating from the Department of Computer Science of Peking University, and founded Upjohn Company in Silicon Valley.

After that, with the determination to return to China to start a business, he came to Beijing Zhongguancun and established Upjian Information Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd.

Upjohn and Hengqin formed in 2018.

In the first Hengqin Science and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, He Guotao led the team to win the championship and won 100 million yuan of free research and development expenses.

In December 2019, Upjohn Times (Zhuhai Hengqin) Information Technology Co., Ltd. held an opening ceremony in Hengqin.

"In Hengqin, when looking for an office or a registered company, there are corresponding government departments to connect with." After taking root in Hengqin, He Guotao felt a steady stream of support, and the company's development entered the fast lane.

Today, Upjohn has grown into an artificial intelligence high-tech enterprise with intelligent speech recognition, speech analysis, speech synthesis and natural language processing technologies as the core, serving the fields of smart government affairs, smart finance, smart cars, and smart cities.

"Macao enterprises can only use Macao people, but only do business in Macao, which has no advantage." He Guotao said that Upjohn's team has about 200 people from all over the world, and the market also faces all corners of the world.

Talking about the future development plan, He Guotao said that in the future, Hengqin will become a bridge or hub, connecting the international market externally through Macau; connecting the vast mainland market internally, and fully opening up the circulation of talents, projects, funds and other elements.

Upjohn will be based in Hengqin, radiate the Greater Bay Area and beyond, and strive to become a leading and pillar enterprise in the field of voice technology.

"The Greater Bay Area is one of the most dynamic regions in China"

In the prominent position of Macau Bowei Information System Co., Ltd., there is a bright sign - University of Macau - Macau Bowei Joint Laboratory.

The laboratory was jointly established by Bowei and the State Key Laboratory of IoT for Smart Cities at UM.

Zhou Jiajun, chairman and general manager of Bowei, said that this is the only joint laboratory of school-enterprise cooperation in Macau.

As a local information technology company in Macau, Bowei was established in 2010 and has grown to have more than 220 employees.

In Macau, Bowei is known as the "sentinel" of network security, providing long-term network infrastructure, information security and cloud services for large enterprises, banks and government departments in Macau.

But Zhou Jiajun is not satisfied with just being a "vanguard" in Macau.

He said that he found a bottleneck after working for a few years, so he has been trying to develop business in the Greater Bay Area.

Starting a business at the doorstep of his home, Zhou Jiajun has witnessed the growth of Hengqin from a small island with green banana forests and few farms into an open frontier position with vertical and horizontal avenues and high-rise buildings.

As early as 2014, he took the lead and registered a company in Hengqin; since 2017, he has transferred some technical services of the network security monitoring business to Hengqin.

In Zhou Jiajun's eyes, Qin-Macao cooperation can build a deep hinterland and build a springboard. The target is the "9+2" market in the Greater Bay Area, and it can be international in the distance.

At present, Bowei has branch offices in Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

"We can also use Macau's platform to export some good technologies and products from the mainland to overseas." Zhou Jiajun said.

"After Macau returned to the motherland, the country has given us great opportunities to develop. Macau's youth base is not only Macau, you can look further north and farther. After all, the Greater Bay Area where we are located is the most economically dynamic in China. One of the areas, the opportunities are endless," he said.
