A Romanian truck driver was sentenced to four years, ten years ban from French territory and prison and a 1,002,000 euro customs fine by the Perpignan Criminal Court.

Customs officers from the Perthus brigade checked the 38 tonnes at the border with Spain.

The driver told them he was going to Denmark to deliver 21 pieces of metal industrial structures.

But the agents noticed the presence of elements of the trailer whose access was made impossible by the pallets containing these metal structures.

By slipping under the load, they were able to lift one of the lids of these compartments and see transparent packages of packaging inside.

The truck was taken to a handling area.

The intervention of a crane made it possible to unload the heavy loads and to access all of these compartments.

There they discovered 83 packets of cannabis resin and 501 kg of cannabis.

Since the beginning of the year, customs officers from the Perpignan regional customs department have already seized more than 5.1 tonnes of cannabis, grass and resins combined.
