A weekend trip ended in tragedy for three young men, which was heard at the Frankfurt District Court on Tuesday.

After a meal, they drive home in the car on a sunny Saturday in June 2020.

Because he had an operation on his groin a few weeks earlier and the scar hurts him, the youngest on the back seat unbuckles the seat belt.

The driver stops at a blind intersection.

He and the passenger look left and right.

When they have made sure that no other vehicle is coming, they turn onto the L 3205. “Then there was a boom.

My eyes went black,” the driver recalls.

A 25-year-old man hit the three friends' car.

He drives 131 instead of the permitted 70 kilometers per hour.

A friend he wants to take to Bad Homburg is sitting in the passenger seat of his BMW i8 hybrid vehicle.

The impact throws the sixteen-year-old, who is not wearing a seat belt, out of the other car through the side window and lands in a field with serious injuries.

A few days later he succumbed to his head injuries in hospital.

His two friends also spend several days in the hospital.

accident could have been prevented

The person who caused the accident now had to answer to the Frankfurt district court for negligent homicide and bodily harm.

An expert opinion concluded that the collision could have been avoided if he had stuck to the speed limit.

"I take full responsibility for my behavior," he said.

He could not explain why he was traveling so fast on the day of the accident.

The speed specified in the report surprised him.

He was not yet familiar with the quiet driving noises of his hybrid vehicle.

He regrets not having contacted the deceased's family immediately after the accident.

The situation overwhelmed him.

"I am ashamed.

I wish I had been a better person,” he now turned to her.

The mother of the deceased made serious accusations against the accused.

In tears, she described in court how the police stood in front of her door instead of her son and brought her the news of the accident.

She has been receiving psychotherapeutic treatment since the death of her son.

Prosecutors asked for a two-year suspended sentence.

"There is nothing that can make up for the physical and emotional anguish of friends and family," the judge said.

She noted that the defendant himself was "rather battered".

However, she doesn't believe that he didn't notice his speed.

His car is "a hot part", not practical.

Since he has no criminal record, the court sentenced the man to 180 daily rates of 130 euros each, i.e. a fine totaling 23,400 euros.

He was also given a six-month driving ban.
