A man was fatally stabbed and another injured late Monday afternoon in the Maurepas district of Rennes.
A stabbing and gunshots had already taken place this weekend in the same neighborhood.
Entrusted to the judicial police, the investigations opened have not yet made it possible to establish a link between these cases.
One dead and two stabbed and an apartment targeted by gunfire.
In four days, the Maurepas district in the north of Rennes was the scene of several acts of violence.
The most dramatic happened Monday at the end of the day at Rochester Avenue.
Around 6 p.m., a 28-year-old man was fatally stabbed by a group of several individuals.
“He received one or two stab wounds, more likely one”, indicates Philippe Astruc, public prosecutor of Rennes.
The autopsy of the body of the victim, born in Guyana and who had no significant criminal history, was to take place on Tuesday afternoon.
Another 24-year-old man, who knew the victim, was also stabbed in the brawl, injuring him slightly.
An investigation for intentional homicide and attempted intentional homicide was opened by the prosecution and entrusted to the territorial direction of the judicial police.
“The context and motive for this knife attack have not yet been established,” said the prosecutor.
In a neighborhood where drug trafficking is well anchored, the trail of a settling of accounts is of course not excluded.
"But there are no objective elements to affirm it, it can also be a personal dispute", indicates Philippe Astruc.
No connection has yet been established between these cases
The succession of acts of violence in the neighborhood also raises questions.
On Friday evening, a man had already received two stab wounds in the back at 6 alley in Brno.
A few hours later, it was an apartment not far from there that had been targeted by gunfire.
Five people occupied the accommodation at the time of the incident but no one was injured.
The judicial police were also seized in these two cases.
“The investigation must make it possible to identify the perpetrators of the facts and to establish whether there are connections between these various facts”, underlines the prosecutor.
So far, no arrests have been made.
