A Texas man opened fire on the morning of the 13th in a gym where a children's summer camp was being held, and then exchanged fire with the police who rushed to the scene. He died after being shot.

Fortunately, about 250 children and staff in the stadium were not injured at the scene.

The Duncanville, Texas, police department held a news conference on the same day to report the case, but did not mention the identity of the gunman.

According to police, the man entered the Duncanville Coliseum foyer with a handgun that morning, spoke to a staff member, and fired the first shot there.

According to NBC, about 250 children between the ages of 4 and 14 were attending summer camp in the gym at the time.

Police Department Officer Matthew Stogner said camp workers rushed the children to safety after hearing the gunshots and locked the door.

"The suspect walked to a classroom, couldn't get in, and fired a shot at a classroom with multiple children," before turning to the gym.

There were multiple children in the gym at the time, but the gunman did not fire.

The police received a call and arrived at the gym about two minutes later. During the search, the gunman was found in the gym, and the two sides exchanged fire.

The gunman was shot and died after being taken to the hospital.

The gunman's motive is not yet known.
