China News Service, June 14. According to Agence France-Presse, the European Union said on the 14th local time that the EU has purchased nearly 110,000 doses of vaccines to deal with the monkeypox epidemic.

Vaccines made by Danish vaccine company Bavarian Nordic have reportedly been approved by the EU to fight smallpox, but EU officials said they would also be used to prevent monkeypox.

EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides said that through the purchase agreement signed on the same day, the EU is ensuring member states have access to a vaccine to protect people exposed to monkeypox.

The EU also said that the vaccines will be delivered from the end of June to non-EU countries Norway and Iceland, in addition to EU member states.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a total of 1,285 cases of monkeypox have been reported in 28 countries outside Africa since the beginning of May.
