Olivier Capitanio, the president of Val-de-Marne, announced on Friday that the Olympic flame would spend an entire day through the department before the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, reports

Le Parisien

.

The flame will also pass through Val-d'Oise and could also cross Essonne.

A very involved department

The passage of the flame will cost the department 150,000 euros.

An essential expense for Olivier Capitanio, the Val-de-Marne being already very involved in these Games through the Terre de Jeux 2024 label. If no event will take place on site, sixteen municipalities will host around thirty preparation centers for the Games (CPJ).

This makes Val-de-Marne the leading French department for the preparation of athletes.

The department also facilitated the organization of whitewater competitions.

These Olympic Games are thus an opportunity for the Val-de-Marne to celebrate a sports culture very present in this territory which has nearly 700 sports structures.

Dora Tchakounté, originally from Champigny-sur-Marne, will also defend the colors of France in weightlifting in less than 59 kg.

Unlike the Ile-de-France department, many communities had expressed their refusal to welcome the Olympic flame in the face of the exorbitant cost of its passage.
