Amazon wants to cancel the victory of the Amazon Labor Union (ALU), the first union created at the end of March, in one of its New York warehouses, on the grounds that the ballot was not fair and free in its eyes.

A hearing before the American agency in charge of labor law began Monday following a request from Amazon, which requests the organization of a second ballot.

At the beginning of April, the employees of the JFK8 warehouse located in the district of Staten Island voted by 2,654 votes (that is approximately 55%) in favor of the creation of a union, and thus to join the

But the e-commerce giant disputes this election.

The company considers that the union influenced the vote by intimidating employees into voting in their favour.

In addition, Amazon accuses the local office, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), an independent agency of the US federal government responsible for ensuring the proper conduct of union elections, of having favored the ALU by announcing, for example, convictions of Amazon's practices just before the election, or by not organizing the ballot correctly.

A union still not recognized by Amazon

The file was therefore relocated to the NLRB office in Phoenix.

The latter ordered a hearing before the American agency in charge of labor law.

The examination should last several weeks.

Pending the conclusions, Amazon has still not recognized the union or entered into negotiations.
