Good evening,

the Höchst Porcelain Manufactory is on the verge of collapse.

"

Again", one would like to say.

Two weeks left to save.

Two weeks?

A period of time in which many a doctoral student rewrites his entire dissertation.

According to a decision by a specialist commission, doctoral degrees may continue to be awarded in certain subject areas at universities of applied sciences (formerly also called universities of applied sciences).

In addition, the effects of the most recent hacker attack on Entega AG are becoming more and more visible.

The day at a glance.

Porcelain manufactory on the brink of collapse: if no new financier is found for Höchst Porcelain Manufactory in July, the company is threatened with collapse – after more than 275 years of company history.

Only a few weeks remain for the rescue attempt.

It was only four years ago that an insolvency administrator had to be engaged.

Then as now, Hans Schmitt was assigned to the case.

In 2018, the closure of the second oldest manufactory in Germany could still be prevented.

At that time, a Taiwanese investor who wanted to conquer the Asian market with Höchst porcelain got involved.

A completely new sales concept was set up for this purpose.

It didn't work.

There are still two weeks left to find a new investor - that's going to be tight.

Business editor Falk Heunemann spoke to insolvency administrator Schmitt about the possibilities of saving the manufactory.

Despite the time pressure, Schmitt still believes in the product and doesn't want anything to do with an economic shambles just yet.

The insolvency administrator even contacted the state government and asked for support.

The country had already stepped in once before when the porcelain manufactory got into trouble.

That was in 2001. At that time, porcelain was described as a "cultural asset" that needed to be protected.

For the time being, the shop in Frankfurt's old town will remain open, and production and factory sales in Höchst will continue.

Hacker attack paralyzes websites: The hacker attack on the energy company Entega AG in Darmstadt is not without consequences in Frankfurt either.

Because the FES is a customer of the Darmstadt data center operator Count and Care, which belongs to the energy company Entega AG, the Internet portal through which commercial customers can order a waste container has been shut down.

Even those who want to have their bulky waste picked up will not get anywhere using an online form on the Internet.

Instead, you have to pick up the phone again – very old-fashioned.

Pick-up requests can be made on 0800 2 00 80 07 10.

Don't worry: the usual household waste will continue to be disposed of.

After the hacker attack became known on Sunday, the FES decided to take all servers connected to the service provider offline.

As is now known, Entega AG has received a ransom demand.

The perpetrators only want to provide software that will make it possible to read the personal data of 2,000 employees, which was encrypted after the hacker attack, once the required sum has been paid.

Extended right to award doctorates: The universities of applied sciences in Hesse may continue to award doctoral degrees in certain subject areas.

The prerequisite is that it is a matter of so-called “research-intensive disciplines”.

This is the conclusion reached by a scientific commission chaired by the President of the Leibniz Association, Matthias Kleiner.

The evaluation report was presented on Monday.

The universities of applied sciences, which many still know as "universities of applied sciences", stand for the connection between science and practice.

The possibility of being able to do a doctorate here is still relatively new.

Nevertheless, in the opinion of the commission, "sustainable structures for the supervision of qualitatively demanding doctorates" have been set up within a very short time.
