The Moroccan newspaper, "Hespress", reported, quoting sources at the Moroccan embassy in Kyiv, that the Moroccan mercenary Ibrahim Saadoun, who is sentenced to death in Donbass, is "a member of the Ukrainian navy."

The sources told the newspaper, "Saadoun was arrested while wearing the uniform of the Ukrainian State Army as a member of the Ukrainian naval unit.

And she added, "In his statements, he confirmed that he had voluntarily enlisted in the Ukrainian army, and indicated that he had Ukrainian citizenship, and this information was confirmed by his father."

She added that Saadoun "is currently imprisoned by a body not recognized by the United Nations or the Kingdom of Morocco."

Saadoun had mentioned in an interview with "Russia Today" that he was fighting in the front lines for about $1,000 a month.

The Donetsk court sentenced Saadoun to death along with two British mercenaries. Aiden Aslin and Sean Benner were also convicted of "acting as mercenaries and attempting to seize power by force in the Donetsk People's Republic".
