As the agency clarifies, granting the status of a candidate for the European Union allows continuing the procedure for admitting states to the EU.

On June 11, the head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, said that the European Commission would formulate an opinion by the end of next week on whether Ukraine should be a candidate for the EU.

At the same time, earlier, on May 31, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said that most countries are against granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate.
