This Sunday, an accident marred the Bordeaux Pride March.

As the procession of 5,000 people paraded at Cours Victor Hugo, part of the metal structure of a tank fell on the crowd.

Three people were seriously injured without their life ever being in danger and three others suffered from discomfort while attending the scene.

“The victims are doing well today”, comments Tristan Poupard, director of Girofard, center for LGBTI + people in Bordeaux, one of the organizing structures of the march.

He specifies that a psychological listening unit has been set up for people shocked by this accident.

People opposed to the demonstration

The tank in question had to be immobilized to avoid another accident.

To ensure the safety of the demonstrators, the police blocked the streets and directed the crowd towards the Quinconces.

But, passing in front of the eco-citizen house, the procession was greeted by LGBT-phobic banners and in several other areas people with visibly hostile intentions were identified.

One of them, for example, had a water pistol filled with solvent.

The police made nine arrests, but it is still unclear at this stage what their profiles are.

“We had negotiated that a tank could come to Quinconces after making sure that the victims were well, reports Tristan Poupard.

But only one song was played and we took the microphone to cancel, because we could no longer guarantee the safety of the participants.

A climate hostile to the demonstration which clearly ended up spoiling the party after the material accident.
