• Manuel Bompard, Nupes candidate and close to Jean-Luc Mélenchon, accused the Ministry of the Interior of "manipulation", claiming nearly 266,00 additional votes for Nupes for the first round of the legislative elections compared to the figure announced by the ministry. .

  • The candidate includes in his calculations the votes of three candidates not counted Nupes by the Ministry of the Interior in mainland France, as well as the votes of certain candidates in Overseas France.

  • The Interior Ministry says it based its list of Nupes candidates on a list provided by the left-wing alliance.

The question is crucial: who comes out on top in this first round of the legislative elections?

The Ministry of the Interior gives a short advantage to Together!, the coalition of the presidential majority.

The ministry gives it 25.75% of the votes cast, against 25.66% for Nupes, the coalition which brings together several left-wing parties, which therefore comes in second place according to the ministry.

A calculation that was quickly challenged by Manuel Bompard.

The candidate Nupes and former director of the presidential campaign of Jean-Luc Mélenchon places his camp at the head: “Alert to the new manipulation of Darmanin, he launched on Twitter in the night from Sunday to Monday.

While Nupes achieves 6,101,968 votes (26.8%), the Ministry of the Interior only gives it 5,836,202 votes (25.7%) to artificially make Macron's party appear in the lead.

This represents a difference of 265,766 votes.

A few hours later, he clarified his calculation a little, accusing the Minister of the Interior of having notably withdrawn the votes of three candidates in metropolitan France in the count of Nupes.

These three candidates are "Dominique Potier in 54 [Meurthe-et-Moselle], Joël Aviragnet in 31 [Haute-Garonne] and Hervé Saulignac in 07 (Ardèche]", i.e. "44,420 votes", he said. Jean-Luc Mélenchon joined the controversy this Monday morning, taking the example of the candidacy of Joël Aviragnet.

Where do these calculation differences come from?

The Nupes included in this calculation the results "of all the candidates presented by the Nupes in France, to French people living abroad, as well as the results of the candidates supported by the political formations of the Nupes in Corsica and in the Overseas Territories, ”says a representative of the alliance at

20 Minutes

.

The Ministry of the Interior indicates to

20 Minutes

that it has established its list of Nupes candidates on the basis of a list drawn up by the alliance: "It is the Nupes campaign management which, by an email addressed to the Ministry of interior on June 8, 2022, listed all the candidates to whom the Nupes shade should be awarded, ”declares the ministry.

This list included candidates from overseas constituencies, but “no overseas candidate” was on it, the ministry added.

Divergences on three Nupes candidates in mainland France

Moreover, unlike Manuel Bompard, the ministry did not count the votes of Dominique Potier, Joël Arivagnet and Hervé Saulignac as Nupes votes, but as various left votes.

These "three candidates initially invested by the Nupes but who had declared that they wanted to give up this nomination were counted in various left", details the ministry, which defends having applied this treatment only to the Nupes: "It is the same for the presidential majority.

Damien Abad [the Minister of Solidarity], which we can legitimately think is supported by Together!, is counted as a variety of right.

How should the votes of these three candidates be counted?

Dominique Potier, candidate in the fifth constituency in Meurthe-et-Moselle and elected socialist, had declared to France 3 on May 7 to have "decided not to wear the colors of this agreement of the popular union".

According to our colleagues from

the Republican East

, he had declared his candidacy for the prefecture under the label various left.

Joël Arivagnet had also been invested by Nupes, but his relations with the alliance were not easy during the campaign.

He had received the support of Carole Delga, the PS president of the region who opposed the alliance between her party and Nupes.

An environmentalist candidacy had also been filed in front of him and his name withdrawn – like those of Dominique Potier and Hervé Saulignac – from the Nupes candidate site.

Contacted by

20 Minutes

, he did not respond to our requests, but told France Info that he was the "sole candidate for the PS in the constituency under the Nupes agreement".

As for Hervé Saulignac, PS candidate for the first constituency in Ardèche, his companionship during the campaign with Nupes was not quiet.

On May 8, he declared his differences of opinion with LFI and said that “we did not ask [him] our opinion [on the signing of the agreement leading to Nupes].

The national agreement is binding on everyone.

However, his campaign team told France Info that the candidate has kept the Nupes label well and says he "does not understand" the interior ministry's various left rankings.

What about the situation in the Overseas Territories?

Candidates or parties, such as the Socialist Party of Guadeloupe, claimed to be Nupes, but the agreements made between the metropolitan parties and France insubordinate for this electoral alliance did not cover these territories.

There was also no agreement for Corsica, where LFI, PCF and PS candidates presented themselves separately.
