The outgoing majority of Emmanuel Macron and the left-wing coalition (Nupes) led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon immediately began their duel between the two rounds of the legislative elections, after having largely dominated the first round on Sunday before the National Rally ( RN) and the right.

From 8 p.m., the representatives of Nupes, neck and neck in voice in front of the outgoing majority according to the polling institutes, challenged the projections providing for a majority of seats for the supporters of Emmanuel Macron at the end of the second round, Sunday, June 19.

A high rate of abstention

But for Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, the presidential coalition is "the only political force capable of obtaining a majority" in the Assembly.

Leading in her constituency of Pas-de-Calais, Marine Le Pen for her part considered "possible to send a very large group" from the far-right party to the Palais-Bourbon.

Many politicians have also deplored the high rate of abstention, a "major fact which must all of us question" according to government spokeswoman Olivia Grégoire.
