Raquel Garrido, invested by the New popular ecological and social union (Nupes), overtook, this Sunday in the first round of the legislative elections, Jean-Christophe Lagarde in the 5th district of Seine-Saint-Denis (Bobigny, Drancy, Le Bourget).
The president of the UDI won 33.41% of the vote, the rebellious 37.9%.
Former mayor of Drancy (2001-2017) and deputy for twenty years, Jean-Christophe Lagarde has held his seat since 2002. It is thus certain that Raquel Garrido, television columnist and former spokesperson for Jean-Luc Mélenchon, will have to fight until June 19 to bring La France insoumise a new constituency in the inner suburbs of Paris.
In a territory very favorable to the left, the ballot is in any case likely to be very well attended.
Raquel Garrido, who is also a lawyer and opposition municipal councilor in Bagnolet, can certainly count on the union of the left and on the scores of Jean-Luc Mélenchon during the presidential election (50.5% against 18.8% for Emmanuel macron).
As a reminder, in 2017 and in a context of strong abstention, the 5th constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis was again won by Jean-Christophe Lagarde.
The deputy had largely beaten the representative of the presidential majority in the second round (66%).
