• The outgoing MP Florian Bachelier came 2nd in the first round of the legislative elections far behind the socialist Mickaël Bouloux, candidate for Nupes.

  • A very tight duel will be held between the left of Claudia Rouaux and the presidential majority embodied by Christophe Martins in the 3rd district.

  • Elsewhere in Rennes, LREM came first but will have to fight in the second round with the union of the left.

Rennes voted overwhelmingly for Emmanuel Macron in 2017. But in 2022, the Breton capital turned to Jean-Luc Mélenchon's party.

For this first round of the legislative elections, the city managed for 40 years by the Socialist Party therefore hesitated.

In its constituencies, Rennes will therefore see a duel between the presidential majority and Nupes.

Nothing seems settled as the scores are tight.

Florian Bachelier is not first

The first quaestor of the National Assembly is one of the best-known Breton deputies on the national scene.

Sunday evening, Florian Bachelier however suffered a setback in the so disputed 8th district.

Faithful support of Emmanuel Macron, the outgoing deputy saw the mayor of Rheu Mickaël Bouloux take the lead with around 45.7% of the vote according to estimates.

This is thirteen points more than the outgoing deputy, credited with around 32.3% of the vote.

In the second round, the socialist will face the deputy LREM whose personality has often irritated the Rennes left since his arrival in politics in 2017. That year, he had collected nearly 41% of the votes in the first round, eliminating the president at the same time of the metropolis Emmanuel Couet.

La Nupes by a short head in the 3rd constituency

The socialist earth did not shake, but almost.

Sunday evening, outgoing MP Claudia Rouaux came out on top in the 3rd constituency (Rennes Ouest) with 34.6% of the vote.

But it was hard !

The socialist, invested by Nupes, is closely followed by the candidate of the Radical Left Party Christophe Martins, officially invested by the presidential majority and who comes second with 33.2% of the vote.

The second round promises to be particularly tight in a constituency which had lost its deputy during the last term, with the death of François André.

His alternate Claudia Rouaux has sat in the National Assembly since February 2020.

Laurence Maillart-Méhaignerie in favorable waivers

The match is far from over in the 2nd constituency.

But at halftime, outgoing MP Laurence Maillart-Méhaignerie seems to have gained the upper hand over her opponent.

Credited with 43.3% of the vote, the LREM candidate distanced Tristan Lahais (Nupes) from just under 3,000 votes.

The representative of the Génération.s party is at 37%, far, very far ahead of Stéphanie Cadiou (National Rally), who obtained 9.3% of the vote.

“As we have been announcing for weeks, this election will be decided by a few hundred votes,” commented the left-wing candidate.

Hind Saud to take over the vacant position?

Without a deputy since the resignation of Mustapha Laabid, sentenced to three years of ineligibility for breach of trust in 2020, the 1st constituency of Rennes could return to its former parliamentary assistant.

Supported by La République en Marche, Hind Saoud came out on top in the first round of the legislative elections with 36.5% of the vote.

Next Sunday, she will be opposed to the Nupes candidate Frédéric Mathieu from La France insoumise who ranked second with 31.9% of the vote.

The candidate of the National Rally comes in third position with 11.6% of the vote and is eliminated.
