Roglic took second place in the 8th and final stage won by Vingegaard, hand in hand with him, at the end of the route which included four climbs in Savoie and Haute-Savoie.

In the final classification, Roglic preceded Vingegaard by 40 seconds.

Australian Ben O'Connor, third in the stage about fifteen seconds behind the Jumbo team duo, completed the final podium, 1 min 41 sec behind Roglic.

In the last stage (138.8 km), in summer heat, the Dutch team only left a limited lead to the breakaway, whose last survivors (G. Bennett, Storer, Hirt) were joined less than 7 kilometers from the line.

On the steep slopes of the final climb (11.3 km at 9.2%), Vingegaard, followed by Roglic, delivered the decisive blow 5.4 kilometers from the finish.

The duo landed O'Connor, the last to keep in touch.

Vingegaard, who appeared even more comfortable than Roglic on the last climb, took his first success in the Dauphiné, a year after revealing himself in the Tour de France, which he was competing for the first time (2nd in the final ranking).

In 74 editions, Roglic is the second Slovenian rider to appear on the Dauphiné prize list, twelve years after Janez Brajkovic.

Aged 32, he took his second victory in a WorldTour stage race this year in the absence of Tadej Pogacar, his compatriot and main rival for the Tour de France.

In March, the Slovenian won in Paris-Nice, a race he lost on the last day of 2021.

The Dauphiné had also refused him in August 2020 when he had given up on the morning of the last stage, following a fall, while wearing the leader's yellow jersey.
