The number of adult Swedes who want to be investigated for ADHD has increased every year for the past 15 years.

Via primary care or your own care request, you can get a referral to psychiatry to get an answer on whether the difficulties you have can be explained with ADHD or have other causes.

But the queue for psychiatry is long in many parts of the country and not everyone who wants to be investigated is judged to meet the criteria for an investigation.

Some therefore turn to private clinics and pay for the investigation themselves.

Others, for example, turn to the Swedish-owned ADHD clinic in Copenhagen.

As the clinic is located in the EU country Denmark, the invoice is sent to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, which forwards it to the patient's home region.

The patient only needs to pay the patient fee.

During the years 2017 to 2021, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency paid almost SEK 43 million to the ADHD clinic.

The largest sum to date was paid out in 2019: SEK 12,984,614.
