The nursing homes Äppelparken, Lövåsen and Strandgården received a delivery of the electric bicycles from Denmark during the week.

The bicycles were a gift from a fund managed by Maria Skogman.

She is the daughter of the famous singer, composer and actor Tore Skogman, who originally came from Hallstahammar.

The fund was started by his uncle Kristian Karlsson, who wanted to benefit the elderly in Hallstahammar.

- The purpose is for the elderly to get out and see people and some nature and make exploration trips, says Katarina Ekström, one of three unit managers at the nursing home Äppelparken.

A "golden edge" in life

Katarina Ekström says that she believes that bicycles become a golden edge in the lives of the elderly.

- They get quality of life by getting out and hopefully we will use the bikes as often as we can because I think it creates a lot of joy, she says.

90-year-old Siv Brickman, one of the residents at Äppelparken, was eager and one of the first to test the tricycles.

Together with her friend 84-year-old Gudrun Nääf, also living at Äppelparken, she went on the first trip in the courtyard of the nursing home.

They got more taste.

In the clip, Siv Brickman and Gudrun Nääf tell where in Hallstahammar they would like to ride the electric bike.
