A sample of a few hairs is enough to determine if you are intolerant or deficient in a variety of foods or substances.

That promise - in combination with the Asthma and Allergy Association's label - made Maria Lindberg Howard send in a hair sample for the Swedish intolerance test.

But the answer she received aroused suspicion.

She was intolerant of everything from cream to yellow dyes, according to the test.

The allergy researcher: Falls on his own unreasonableness

Magnus Wickman, professor emeritus at Karolinska Institutet, has been researching allergies for 40 years.

- What is measured in allergy tests are antibodies in the blood.

How to get it out of hairs surpasses my comprehension ability, he says.

When he hears that the test also showed a lack of coconut oil, he says:

- To get it out of a hair - it falls on its own unreasonableness.

Swedish banker fronts

The domain name is owned by a company in Romania.

But the site is in Swedish and is fronted by a man with a name and picture who is alleged to be a dietitian.

When SVT Nyheter does a picture search, it turns out to represent a man who works at a bank in a small town in Sweden.

The union reports to the police

About ten people have contacted the Asthma and Allergy Association and wondered about the labeling on the site.

The union has chosen to report to the police for false marketing.

- It is incredibly problematic.

People trust that what is marked by us is safe to use for those who are allergic, says Helena Färnsten, acting general secretary of the Asthma and Allergy Association.

Helena Färnsten urges everyone who suffers from allergies to turn to healthcare.

- There are a plethora of such tests online that are both expensive and unsafe.

We think that healthcare should investigate and make diagnoses.

The site down

Less than a day after SVT Nyheter heard about the only email address that was printed on the site and asked for a comment, the site is down.
