The Korean Central News Agency reported that North Korea held an extended meeting of the 5th plenary session of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea from the 8th to yesterday (10th).

General Secretary Kim Jong-un presided over the meeting, diagnosing that the national security environment is very serious and the surrounding situation is at risk of exacerbating the situation.

He also argued that such a situation is urging North Korea to advance its goal of strengthening its national defense capabilities.

After defining the right to self-defense as a matter of defending national sovereignty, Secretary-General Kim reiterated the principle of confrontation and fighting, the Central News Agency said.

In addition, he is expected to continue to spur the strengthening of the armed forces by revealing that he has presented the militant tasks that must be pursued forcibly in the field of republican armed forces and defense research.

The decision on the nuclear test, which was expected to be announced at this plenary meeting, was not disclosed, and there was no direct message to the US or South Korea.

At this meeting, large-scale personnel appointments were also carried out, such as the appointment of Choe Son-hui, a well-respected foreign minister in negotiations with the US.

Ri Seon-kwon, who was in the position of Foreign Minister, was named the director of the United Front Department, who was in charge of South Korea.
