At half past eight, five children enter the classroom at Parkskolan in Östersund.

Some have lived in Sweden for a few months while others have been here for a shorter time than that.

What they all have in common is that they go to a special preparation class that the teacher Agneta Isén-Malmquist holds together with two study supervisors.

- This is a preparation class for Ukrainian refugee children in particular, says Agneta Isén-Malmquist.

Nice to be together

A total of eight students have been enrolled.

They are between 9 and 12 years old and during the lessons Swedish, English and Ukrainian are mixed.

- It's nice that we are together, says student Victoria.

She is supported by the other children.

- Yes, it's nice to be able to speak Ukrainian, says Adriano.

Most important to understand Swedish

At the same time, it turns out during the lesson that the children already know a lot of Swedish.

Many of the teacher's questions receive Swedish answers.

- The main emphasis is on the students to understand and then be able to speak Swedish.

Then will write and read, says Agneta Isén-Malmquist.

She thinks it's going well.

Students learn quickly.

- A key is that I also try to learn a little Ukrainian, that I show that their language is important.

But then we also try to have fun.

Regular school after the summer holidays

In the autumn, students will start in regular classes.

The schools do not yet know which schools it will be, information will come during the summer.

But first it's summer vacation.

Victoria says she wants to train dogs and play football.

Adriano intends to go roller skiing.

- And I will train gymnastics, says Illia.

Do you have a goal?

- Win in the Olympics, he says.
