As noted by the US Agency for Defense Security Cooperation, the delivery will help Taiwan to increase the ability to "counter current and future threats."

“The State Department has decided to approve a possible ... sale to the Economic and Cultural Representative Office of Taipei in the United States (TECRO) of spare parts for ships and ship systems and related equipment for an estimated $120 million,” RIA Novosti quotes the message.

The proposed sale "serves the US national interest," the agency said.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said earlier that the US administration believes it is "vital" for Taiwan to have weapons for defense.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the total amount of arms deals from the United States to Taiwan has exceeded $70 billion.
