The police in Västerås: Blue light sabotage no big problem

In January 2020, a new crime was introduced in Sweden - sabotage against blue light operations.

In the case of gross blue-light sabotage, the penalty scale extends up to life imprisonment.

SVT has checked how the law has been applied in Västmanland.

So far, five people have been charged.

The blue light sabotage occurred in two separate incidents and it was sabotage against the police.

According to the ambulance and rescue service in the county, situations rarely arise that can be classified as blue light sabotage, where they would, for example, be seriously hindered in an emergency or that stones are thrown at their cars or staff.
