  The global ranking of the University of Hong Kong has risen one place from the previous year, ranking 21st and 5th in Asia; the Chinese University of Hong Kong ranked 38th, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University ranked 65th, and Hong Kong Baptist University ranked 281st. Up; Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University and Lingnan University fell in the rankings, ranking 40th and 54th respectively, while Lingnan University ranked 601st to 650th.

  This year's QS World University Rankings is the largest ever, with 1,418 institutions in 100 regions participating, and the input of more than 150,000 academics and 99,000 employers.

The reference standards include 40% academic reputation, 10% employer reputation, 20% citations by faculty members, 20% teacher-student ratio, 5% international teacher/student ratio, 5% international student ratio, employment outcomes and international research networks.

  The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ranked first in the world for the 11th consecutive year, the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom ranked second, and Stanford University ranked third; among Asian universities, the highest is the National University of Singapore, which ranks 11th in the world, and Peking University is higher than Peking University. Last year, it rose six places and ranked 12th, and Tsinghua University ranked 14th.
