After two days of trial, the Vaucluse Assize Court on Wednesday sentenced a doctor to eight years in prison for aggravated rape, reports

Le Dauphiné Libéré

.

On June 7, 2016, the practitioner, now 62, raped one of his patients during a session in his medical practice in Jonquerettes.

"Therapeutic Approval"

When questioned, the man admitted having performed an intravaginal massage on his patient that day but denied any penile penetration.

According to him, this massage was part of a therapy project and justified by reading a book on the sexology of the Tao.

Asked by the president about the victim's consent, the respondent felt that there was "therapeutic approval".

The Attorney General thus described the facts as "surprise rape" with "psychological constraint".

In defense, the defendant's lawyer pleaded acquittal, highlighting the fact that it would be a sincere medical act.

Sentenced, the man had been banned from practicing since his placement under judicial supervision six years ago.
