President Emmanuel Macron receives the representatives of the trade union organizations for a working lunch at the Elysée Palace on Friday, but the general secretary of the CGT Philippe Martinez declined the invitation.

Will be present at this meeting, according to the Elysée, Laurent Berger, secretary general of the CFDT, Frédéric Souillot, brand new secretary general of FO, François Hommeril, president of CFE-CGC and Cyril Chabanier, president of the CFTC.

First meeting since re-election

Since his re-election, this is Emmanuel Macron's first meeting with union leaders when he promised to put social consultation at the heart of his second five-year term.

This meeting will allow to discuss the major issues of the country, the economic situation and future projects, in particular on purchasing power, according to the Elysée.

Also on the menu for discussion: the "National Council for Refoundation", the launch of which the President of the Republic announced after the legislative elections of June 12 and 19, in line with the "change of method" he had promised during the presidential election. .

"A Country Luncheon"

Bringing together political, economic, social, associative forces as well as elected representatives of the territories and citizens drawn by lot, this Council will have to consider the five objectives carried by Macron during his campaign: “independence (industrial, military, food, etc.) , full employment, carbon neutrality, public services for equal opportunities and democratic rebirth with institutional reform,” he explained in an interview with the regional daily press last Friday.

"I am going to ask for clarification on this famous CNR and to reiterate strongly that it is out of the question that we relive five years in terms of social democracy as we have just gone through them", warned Laurent Berger during a meeting organized this week with the Association of Social Information Journalists (Ajis).

Philippe Martinez has meanwhile made it known that he would not respond to this invitation.

“It looks like a campaign lunch two days before the first round of the legislative elections,” he explained to Les Echos.

A meeting with national and interprofessional employers' organizations (MEDEF, CPME and U2P) is scheduled for next week.
