A GIGN soldier appeared this Tuesday before the court of Compiègne (Oise).

In August 2020, he had hit a couple in their seventies during a chase with a dangerous fugitive, reports

Le Parisien

.

On the day of the events, the respondent was traveling in an unmarked 4x4 at an estimated speed of 200 km/h.

The victims were able to avoid the vehicle chased by the police but not that of the defendant and were seriously injured in the accident.

Proven guilt but no punishment

100 days of ITT had subsequently been issued to the husband who appeared alone at Tuesday's hearing.

His wife died 10 months after the accident.

The soldier was finally found guilty by the court, in particular because of his dangerous driving, but was exempted from sentence.

The latter felt that because of his job, he could not avoid traffic violations.

He will nevertheless have to pay €3,182 for material damage.
