President Zelensky “Bombardment may contaminate land and rivers”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attended the OECD-Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development Ministerial Board meeting online in Paris on the 9th, as Russian troops bombarded the eastern region where coal mines and chemical factories are concentrated. He accused Ukraine of threatening land and rivers.

"The eastern Donbas region is one of the world's most industrialized areas, with many coal mines and chemical factories concentrated in it. Russia's attack pollutes Ukraine's land and pollutes groundwater and rivers," Zelensky said in a speech. He pointed out that there is a concern that the destruction of factories may cause serious water pollution in the Black Sea and the Azov Sea.

He also said that the port facing the Black Sea was blocked by Russian troops, making it impossible to export grain, and Russia bears all the responsibility that hundreds of millions of people around the world are at risk of food shortages and hunger. Insisted that it should be.

Minister of Defense of Ukraine Posted about weapons provided by Western countries

On the 9th, Ukrainian Defense Minister Reznikov received self-propelled artillery guns from the United States, France, and Poland to bombard enemy positions on his Facebook page, as well as armored vehicles carrying troops. He posted that about 250 military vehicles and thousands of portable weapons such as the anti-tank missile "Javelin" were provided.

He also said he had received hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles and drones, and hoped to provide more powerful offensive drones in the future.

Defense Minister Reznikov expressed his appreciation for the military assistance of each country, but said that he was "not satisfied with the speed and quantity of weapons provided" and urged Western countries to rush to provide additional weapons to realize the reversal offensive. I complained.

Japan elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council 12th time, the most among the member countries

The UN Security Council's election to decide a non-permanent member for two years from next year was held at the UN General Assembly, and Japan won the 12th election, which is the largest number among the member states.

The UN Security Council consists of five permanent members such as the United States and China, and ten non-permanent members with a two-year term assigned by region, of which five are non-permanent members each year. It will be re-elected one by one.

At the UN General Assembly, an election will be held on the 9th to determine non-permanent members for two years from January next year, and Japan, Switzerland, Malta, Ecuador, and Mozambique, who ran for each region, are all required to win two-thirds. I was elected with the above votes.

This is the 12th time that Japan has become a non-permanent member of the Security Council since the two years from 2016 to 2017, and it is the largest number among UN member states.

In February, the Security Council rejected a resolution calling on Russia to immediately withdraw its troops from Ukraine due to Russia's veto power, and last month against North Korea, which repeatedly launched ballistic missiles. There is growing criticism that the Security Council is dysfunctional, with resolutions to strengthen sanctions being rejected by the veto powers of China and Russia.

It will be interesting to see what role Japan, which has the most experience as a non-permanent member, can play in regaining the authority and trust of the Security Council, in addition to responding to conflicts around the world.
