“Give Ukraine candidate status as a clear political sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people,” TASS cites one of the points of the adopted resolution on changing the EU’s foreign and defense policy.

According to the document, European countries were also called upon to immediately provide Kyiv with the necessary weapons, as well as humanitarian and financial assistance, and to assist in the restoration of the country after the end of hostilities.

The authors of the resolution proposed "to create a legal mechanism for the confiscation of frozen Russian assets and funds in order to compensate and restore Ukraine."

At the same time, Italy stated that most countries are against granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate.

The spokesman for the Polish government, Petr Muller, noted earlier that the restoration of Ukraine, destroyed after a special operation, should be financed by Russian assets frozen by European countries.

According to Reuters, citing European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, the EU countries blocked the assets of the Bank of Russia in the amount of about €23 billion.
