A study warned of the dangers of social networks to the intellectual security of Emirati youth, calling for work to arm them with an intellectual and moral culture that fortifies their human behavior and practices.

The study, which was prepared by the Head of the People of Determination Affairs Team at the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai, Muhammad Al-Ghafli, stressed the need to prepare to face any “digital pandemics” launched by modern communication technologies, with the aim of targeting minds and deviating them towards behavioral trends with unsafe results.

The study, a copy of which was reviewed by Emirates Today, defined intellectual security as “maintaining the integrity of correct ideas and beliefs among members of society while providing them with research tools and knowledge, and an explanation of correct ways of thinking.”

Al-Ghafli told "Emirates Today" that the reason for choosing the topic of research, on the basis of which he received a diploma in community leadership from the University of Sharjah, is that cyber attacks, war and intellectual terrorism via virtual and social networks topped the global risks report issued by the World Economic Forum this year.

He added that the report emphasized that "the dissemination of misinformation on a large scale is at the heart of the technological risks that threaten the world in the next ten years."

He also warned of the risks associated with the tremendous development in the uses of communications and information technology, which social networks are at the center of.

He warned that the widespread dissemination of misinformation, whether intentional or unintentional, may lead to the occurrence of what is known as “digital pandemics.”

Al-Ghafli explained that the importance of the study lies in shedding light on what threatens the minds of young people as a result of the rapid changes that the world is experiencing, which made it fall into a clear dispersion in setting goals and objectives, as the radical global changes in all areas of life led to the inability of young people to clearly distinguish between what is what is right and what is wrong;

What led to the occurrence of an intellectual crisis had a significant impact in pushing young people to rebel and revolutionize the values of society, and their almost complete alienation from the values of their society, which requires intellectual and moral immunization in the face of modern data, capable of changing the behavior of the individual and society.

Al-Ghafli added that the transformations accompanying the growth of globalization and the development of information and communication technology led to the emergence of a new type of challenges and non-military threats across national borders. , and contrary to ethical standards that are not governed by open space.

The study included four recommendations that would reduce the risks of social networks on the intellectual security of Emirati youth, which included the use of social networking tools in spreading Islamic and Arab culture, introducing solutions to humanity and educating young people on ways to benefit from the positives of communication networks and encouraging them to Exploiting it properly by linking it to global scientific and humanitarian research centers.

The recommendations also included the use of communication networks to educate society, especially young people, about the dangers of intellectual security problems that represent a threat to their society.

It also suggested encouraging Emirati media institutions to publish and display methods and guidelines on the dangers of intellectual invasion and moral disorganization.
