The 13-year-old son found it increasingly difficult to enter school.

Talented, he has no difficulties.

The school has tried to adapt the teaching and the municipality's attendance team was involved and supported.

One and a half years ago, the son was diagnosed with ADHD.

- Adjustments have been made at the school.

The attendance team had extensive experience and had worked with this for many years.

But the adjustments in school are not enough for our son.

The school says they have done everything they can.

What should I do as a parent if there are no resource schools either?

The attendance team was called down

But in 2021, the politicians in Sundsvall decided that the attendance team would be closed down.

The team was a support function to all schools in the municipality and the task was to work with students, family and school to find new perspectives to get the student back to school.

- Now all responsibility lies with each individual school.

From a political point of view, they want the competence to be present in every school.

But I am afraid that the skills will be depleted.

Parent becomes coordinator

She also believes that the coordination between different agencies, such as social services, schools and child and adolescent psychiatry is lacking.

This places great responsibility on the parents so that things do not end up "between the chairs".

In some municipalities there are special coordinators, but not in Sundsvall.

- We parents must keep all the threads, call and coordinate and get everything together.

The parent becomes like a coordinator.

She also thinks that the need for resource schools should be discussed.

A resource school is a school for students who cannot participate in regular teaching.

In Västernorrland there is only one such school and it is in Örnsköldsvik.

But Ånge plans to open one next year.
