Germain Gaiffe, better known under the name of "the butcher of Montauban", is a candidate without a label in the legislative elections in the 2nd constituency of Vaucluse.

The 55-year-old, who has spent almost half his life in prison, plans to get elected by proposing to ban candidates with criminal records from running for office.

This is surprising information.

In the 2nd constituency of Vaucluse, Germain Gaiffe will be a candidate in the legislative elections, scheduled for June 12 and 19, notably against Stanislas Rigault.

The name of Germain Gaiffe surely means nothing to you and yet the 55-year-old man is released from 24 years in prison for murder.

Indeed, in the 1990s, he made the headlines by being nicknamed "the skinner of Montauban".

And let's go for the fire towers!

Released in 2021

The victim, a 62-year-old insurer from the city of Tarn-et-Garonne, had disappeared in December 1997. His body had been cut up before being found in the Garonne.

Germain Gaiffe, who denied the facts throughout the trial, now assumes his past.

"People have the right to blame me. They have the right not to understand. But no one but me is more legitimate to be the representative of the people, because I took 30 years at the name of the people, he explains in an interview with

La Provence

.

He was sentenced in 2003 to 30 years in prison, before being granted a reduced sentence and released from prison in 2021.

Carlos and Dieudonné as witnesses of marriage

During his (long) detention, Germain Gaiffe was talked about several times.

In 2009, with her companion at the time, who became her husband in 2013, they filed a declaration of paternity with the town hall of the 16th arrondissement of Paris, claiming to be both the father of Zohra, the daughter of the former Minister of Justice Rachida Dati.

A "joke" according to the candidate from Vaucluse, which will still earn them six months in prison.

Married to the Italian Alfredo Stranieri, Germain Gaiffe celebrated the first "marriage between people of the same sex" in a French prison.

But her husband is also infamous for being a serial killer, being nicknamed "the classifieds killer".

He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a 22-year security sentence on February 28, 2003 for four murders and an aborted attempted murder.

For their union, the two men choose two rather special witnesses: the humorist Dieudonné and the terrorist Carlos.

He wants to prevent candidates with a record from running

Since his release from prison last year, Germain Gaiffe has therefore embarked on politics.

Without a label, he intends to carry out a reform which could... cause his resignation.

Indeed, if elected, he wants to prevent any candidate with a criminal record from standing for election.
